My name is Benjamin Clark. I live in Tallahassee, Florida where I work as the Coordinator of Information Services for the FSU College of Social Sciences and Public Policy. I also work as a freelance web developer. I prefer to work with Drupal. I am a Mac fanboy, Linux enthusiast, and a supporter of open source software.

Elsewhere on the Web

Onward and Upward

In less than two weeks, I will be married! More to come on that subject, certainly — and plenty of pictures from the wedding and our honeymoon cruise.

While the wedding is a happy occasion, following the wedding comes some bittersweet news. After over ten years in Tallahassee — minus 9 months in Bloomington, Indiana — and three years working at the FSU College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, my wife and I will be leaving. We are moving to the DC area so that she may attend University of Maryland's graduate program in journalism.

West Wight Potter

I bought a copy of FlickrExport for iPhoto yesterday, and I went about uploading a bunch of old photos to Flickr.

Here is a set of our West Wight Potter sailboat from 2001.

Adventures with Dreamhost, MediaTemple, and (ultimately) Linode

After struggling with Guestbook spam on benandmaggiegetmarried.com, I realized how slow Dreamhost had become; after moving to a Dedicated-Virtual account at MediaTemple on Monday, I ultimately migrated my sites to a Linode virtual machine running Arch Linux & lighttpd.

Working to restore old posts

I'm working to restore some old posts, so if you're subscribed to this feed (and that's probably a big "if") you're probably seeing a couple old posts pop up. I recently imported from some WordPress-era database backups, and I'm going through them individually, marking them as published (or not).

Still working on converting site to Drupal

Exactly one year ago today, I had just installed Drupal at BenClark.com and I posted a "hello world" to prove it. A year later, I am still working on finishing the migration from WordPress to Drupal.

Website changes and updates

I am working on updating the content and theme of this website. If you encounter a missing page or "unauthorized" errors, know that this is only temporary. In the meantime, the Twitter updates should still display and the blog archive will remain intact.

What's New? Road Trip!

Tonight begins my 5,000 mile road trip! My friend Josh and I are getting into my 2008 Toyota Matrix after I get off of work. We'll be driving from Tallahassee, FL, straight to Boulder, CO, on I-70 (through Missouri & Kansas). We're estimating that to be a 25 hour stretch. Then after a day or two in Boulder, we go to Moab, UT, and finish up around Las Cruces, NM, before heading back on I-10.

Upgrading Mac mini

I'm very proud of myself: last night, I upgraded the hard drive and memory in my Mac mini. Seeing as how not one part of the Mac mini is "user serviceable," this meant I had to crack open the case using a putty knife, amongst other things. But everything went through nice and smoothly, and the new hard drive -- 320 GB -- has a clean install of Leopard on it.
