I left work early yesterday, feeling kind of weird. I still feel kind of weird.
Despite that, I got a call around 4 from Adam who told me Michael Moore was going to be at the Civic Center along with the Goo Goo Dolls and ... Roseanne ... and so I figured, okay, I missed Michael Moore the last time he was here, and I've been on this Boy Named Goo kick for the last couple of weeks, so I grabbed my sister and we went. Adam had VIP seats on the floor because he got tickets in the union, but Lindsey and I found seats without a problem, even twenty minutes before the show was set to start.
Stupid Goo Goo Dolls played Dizzy Up The Girl and Gutterflower crap. They didn't even bother with an electric guitar. I would've pissed myself if they played "Long Way Down," "Naked," or "Eyes Wide Open." I personally think "Flat Top" would have been a very appropriate song. (I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they wouldn't have played anything from Superstar Carwash.)
Still, it was cool to see them in person. Maybe if they came through and did a real concert, I'd try to get tickets on the off chance that they'd play something, oh I dunno, something that rocks.
Michael Moore has definite crowd appeal. Disclaimer for those of you who don't know me, I'm a huge fan of Michael Moore's films. And I like the guy himself, too. That was reinforced last night. He's charismatic.
I went to the bathroom when Roseanne took the stage.
In the bathroom, some military guy was shouting to me and a couple other guys, "I'm voting for George W., blah blah blah." It was kind of annoying, not because he was so aggressive (which to me just sounded desperate and weak), but because I don't like shouting in enclosed spaces. My ears were ringing, literally and figuratively.
I'd never been to a political rally, and I figured if I was going to do it at any point in my life, I might as well do it for this election, right?
Anyway, afterward, Adam and I went to Village Inn and caught up on things. So there's a chance that I'll have a guest guitarist on a few of my tracks after this election is through. Woo!
Funniest moment of the night: there were some grab bags for the VIP people, but not all the seats were taken. So, I asked Adam to grab me one. There was a CD of some assorted music mixed in with the goodies, and as I'm taking it out of the bag, I'm like, "What's on this?" Adam deadpans, "mid-90s rock, Ben." And for some reason, I take this at face value, and get really excited. I mean, really exciting. Adam continues, "there's some Soundgarden and Smashing Pumpkins..." but I'm looking at the track list and it's nothing but one hip hop artist after another. "Adam, you bastard, I actually believed you!"
I can be pretty gullible. Did I ever tell you guys about the time my friends tricked me into paying for all four of our dinners at a Mexican restaurant in Sarasota?

I really dislike the 2006 GTI.
