Over the weekend, I decided to dust off my Les Paul copy, restring it, and enjoy that full LP sound. In the process of restringing, I noticed that my tuning keys were practically falling apart. On a whim, I decided to look into whether they could be replaced cheaply or not. I ended up ordering a replacement set from Musician’s Friend for about $50.

Then I started browsing around the site looking at other things I could buy to upgrade my LP copy. I had previously lanced off one of the four knobs in a bizarre falling chair accident, so I found myself buying replacement knobs as well. While on the shopping spree, I also bought myself a new bridge/tailpiece.

I also bought Gibson '57 Classic Humbuckers to replace my stock humbuckers in both the bridge and neck positions. I don’t know what I have now*, but I’m sure that these are an improvement. They came highly recommended at Harmony Central, and come stock in my dream guitar, the SG Supreme.

So, it looks like this weekend will be spent alternatively working on homework and retrofitting a guitar. :) Anyone know how to use a soldering gun?

* In the process of gutting my LP copy, I discovered that it is most likely a custom-made guitar, rather than any particular brand. There are no even cuts anywhere in the body, and the wiring looks amateurish. I’d be very curious to learn more about the origins of this guitar… All I know about it is that I found it for around $200 in a Sarasota guitar store.
