I recently “discovered” a great Mac app called TextWrangler (from the makers of BBEdit, another great Mac app).

Ever since I got my PowerBook two years ago, I’ve been looking for a way to edit HTML that wasn’t WYSIWYG but also not completely bare bones (no pun intended). At work, I use Dreamweaver’s source editing mode exclusively—it manages my sites, and keeps the open files in a tabbed window. Unfortunately, Dreamweaver on the Mac sucks, and up until now I had resigned to the fact that my PowerBook wasn’t going to be my web production workstation.

However, on the authority of a MacWorld review I found myself downloading a copy of TextWrangler to try it out. It is exactly what I need it for: colorizing the source code (which is something you never realize aids your understanding of the code until it’s not there), tabbed windows, and a variety of other cool features that I haven’t explored yet. It helped me put together a site for one of my semester projects this past weekend, and now I’ve kicked Apple’s TextEdit out of my Dock and replaced it with TextWrangler.
