The coolest guitar ever (that isn't really a guitar) is a Y-shaped string instrument called a Tritare. Leave it to the Canadians to come up with something this weird (and undeniably awesome); I would fully expect to hear this in a Rush album from the year 2112.
Basically it is the real-world application of [insert calculus babble from here]. I actually came to the same conclusion when I was working on my advanced mathematics degree at CalTech in 1976 [no I didn't]. I would've patented the idea if I had known it was marketable [again, no]. Of course, this was in the days before Internet viral marketing--I found this from reading Digg's front page after all. Back then, we had to walk uphill both ways in the snow to get to the library, and the library had a card catalogue, not that fancy computerized hookey, so you can imagine the papercuts...
Anyway, I was listening to clips of the Tritare and I look forward to hearing a full album's worth of Tritare music. Good music to listen to, if only for a few minutes.
