iPhone in sick, 'cause I just gotta buy an iPhone!

When I bite into an Apple iPhone, I get the sensation that I'm flying high above the clouds on a magic carpet powered by technological superiority.

But come on kids, this thing's great! I hope it ushers in a whole new era of interface design. Just imagine how useful these touch screen innovations could be in various consumer electronic environments: car stereos, microwaves, alarm clocks, mechanized wastebaskets. Okay, maybe it's not one of those things you can just stick anywhere, but I bet we'll see that sort of stuff in more places than expected.

In another life, I did academic research on the information needs of the blind and visually-impaired. While Apple won praise for its built-in screen reader for OS X, the touch-screen iPhone has absolutely zero tactile feedback. Fail. (Argument that I've heard a hundred times before: "Why would a blind person need an iPhone?" "Um, why wouldn't they?" It's our responsibility as interface designers to consider the needs of every potential customer group, not to make blind assumptions based on unfair prejustices.)

The appleTV box is pretty slick, too. I wonder if it could someday integrate with MythTV. That would definitely make me want to buy it. I suppose the nice thing about open source is that if a feature is missing, I can try my hand at adding it myself.
