Outside Red Rock Canyon, Nevada

July 2008

Finally seeing Dark Knight.

Still feeling the cold symptoms, and they're not really improving much. I wish I could just take a nap this afternoon.

Going to bed. Dude, I really don't want to go to work tomorrow. That's gonna blooooowwwww.

Feels good to be back. Now the real fun begins: unpacking & cleaning my car! Grabbing a late breakfast @ Bagelheads, then time to work.

We have arrived at my apartment! What a fun trip this has been. Good to be back, though.

Officially back in Florida! Just need to stop off at the Welcome Center, then it's straight to Tallahassee!

Welcome to Mississippi! We're getting closer...

Crossing Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, LA. No longer "out west." :(

Leaving Houston Texas at 6:35 am.

At a gas station 50 mi west of Houston. We're stopping in Houston for the night. The Alamo was a bust. Too crowded, and we didn't want t ...

Yes, we are aware that TD Dolly is rolling through our area soon. We fully expect to drive through a lot of rain tomorrow. C'est la vie.

Hung out at New Mexico Museum at Space History in Alamogordo, NM. That was very interesting. I had to have a nerd moment once this trip!

At White Sands National Monument waiting for the road to open at 1pm.

We're off to a late breakfast & then White Sands National Monument. Then... dunno. Our NM itinerary is short.

We have arrived in Las Cruces, NM. Tired from a long day of driving. Drove through a flash flood. Saw a damsel in distress scam. Good night!

Driving south through New Mexico. Four Corners was neat, but "unassuming."

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is very popular out here in Moab. I've seen more of these than Jeeps.

All done for the day. Moab was great. Long day tomorrow. Looking like 12+ hrs down to Las Cruces. Gonna see Mnmt Valley & Four Points.

Just got back from the Hummer tour. We went up inclines that were simply INSANE. Totally and completely worth it.

There's a wildfire near our hotel. The wind picked up & started blowing smoke toward us. *cough* I hope they don't cancel our Hummer tour!

Going on a 2 hr sunset Hummer tour into Hell's Revenge! *scary music* Should be fun!

2 things: Rain? In the desert? Also, got some great pix of Arches&Canyonlands NP. Having fun here in Moab! Cool place. Will return!

@ Canyonlands NP.

Breakfast is over. Commence national parks going.

Made it to Moab! Pretty cool place so far. Hanging out in the hotel, then dinner.

Dinner was good. Twitter is proving to be unreliable. Taking a night off to chill at the hotel. Tomorrow is Arches NP & Canyonlands NP.

(Originally sent around 5:30pm.) Made it to Moab! Pretty cool place so far. Hanging out in the hotel, then dinner.

I may have caught a cold. Feeling a little run down, but we're proceeding to Moab, Utah now. Colorado was nice.

Twitter lost a bunch of updated today. I hope this one goes through.

Long day of driving Colorado back country roads. RMNP was awesome. 54F at the peak! Still weary from yesterday. In Boulder eating dinner.

Front desk guy: "You drove straight here from Florida? ... Soo... How did you like Kansas?" Also: we took 30 hrs to get here, not 28.

We have FINALLY arrived at the hotel in Boulder. We are both about to collapse from driving 28 hrs straight. Good night!

Made it to Colorado state line!

WILL KANSAS NEVER END?? I'm losing my mind here...

Wind turbines are enormous! Soo much bigger than I thought! 250 ft tall at least.

Hanging in there. In central Kansas now. I just finished driving for a whole tank (350-ish miles). It is very windy here, but that's normal.

Kansas is dull but pretty. Green rolling hills. Does it get flatter?

The weather here in central MO is perfect! You actually want to be outside! Less humidity. Reminds me of Indiana.

Just leaving Gateway Arch in St. Louis. Gray skies and humid. On our way through Missouri now.

Near Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Sunrise was nice. I'm very tired. Josh is driving again.

Well, just relinquished driving to Josh. For the control freak that I am, this is a big step. But it does feel good to just be a passenger.

In Dothan, Alabama. Going smooth so far!

Stuck in traffic just west of Tallahassee on I-10. This sucks.

What's New? Road Trip!

Tonight begins my 5,000 mile road trip! My friend Josh and I are getting into my 2008 Toyota Matrix after I get off of work. We'll be driving from Tallahassee, FL, straight to Boulder, CO, on I-70 (through Missouri & Kansas). We're estimating that to be a 25 hour stretch. Then after a day or two in Boulder, we go to Moab, UT, and finish up around Las Cruces, NM, before heading back on I-10.

Waiting for an oil change and tire rotation at the Toyota dealership. Was told 45 mins yesterday, this morning they said 1 hr. Grr.

Just one more work day and I'm on my way to Colorado! Gotta get an oil change in the A.M., then work for 8 hours---and then drive for 25!

Just two more afternoons here at work, and then my cross-country road trip! I'll be visiting Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and all in between.

On my way to Venice for my brother's wedding.
