In less than two weeks, I will be married! More to come on that subject, certainly — and plenty of pictures from the wedding and our honeymoon cruise.
While the wedding is a happy occasion, following the wedding comes some bittersweet news. After over ten years in Tallahassee — minus 9 months in Bloomington, Indiana — and three years working at the FSU College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, my wife and I will be leaving. We are moving to the DC area so that she may attend University of Maryland's graduate program in journalism.
Tallahassee has become my home over the past decade. FSU has treated me well as both a student and as an employee. I don't necessarily feel that I am resigning from my job, or leaving this town due to any particular negative emotion. It is simply a relocation: a chance to try something new, work somewhere new, and live in a new place.
Although our plan to leave Tallahassee has been in the works for quite some time, it didn't quite hit home until I put in my resignation notice at work a few weeks ago. Now that it is official, and knowing that the search for my replacement will begin soon, well... it really brings it home.
