I'm writing this from a hotel in Fredericksburg, VA. Starting tomorrow, we will be full time residents of the greater Washington, DC area! Our time in Tallahassee – and Florida – has come to an end.
We moved out of our apartment in Tallahassee yesterday. It took us nearly 12 straight hours of working, cleaning and packing, but we did it! I don't have the words to describe how gross we felt at the end of the day, but we decided that we would be better off getting on down the road. We made it as far as Jacksonville, found a hotel near the airport, and collapsed.
We opted to sell all our furniture and a few large items, and downsized from a 15-ft moving truck to a rental SUV. We packed everything we wanted (and nothing else) into our Toyota Matrix and the rental Ford Edge. (The Edge, by the way, has been excellent and I'm very impressed by its comfort & performance. I'm not a SUV person, but it's definitely the right vehicle for the job.) I'm so glad that I played hours and hours of Tetris growing up...
Tomorrow, we will drive from Fredericksburg to the Mount Vernon area, where we will be staying for the next few weeks before moving into a housesitting arrangement just outside of Silver Spring, MD. We will be there for a few months, and then we're planning to move into a rental apartment/condo. It'll be a summer of transitions: my job search, Maggie's first semester at graduate school, a new town, new social group, etc. I'm excited to be doing something new & different. Stay tuned!
