August Update

I'm just not good at this three blog thing. I apologize for not updating this one much lately.

We are now in the month of August, so allow me to quickly hit all the marks for July:

I saw Pirates of the Carribean 2, and hated it.

My grandfather came to visit in July. It was really nice to see him, and I hope he can return again soon and/or that I can go up to Virginia to visit.

Personal finance is the thorn in my side

This is part one of what I suspect will be many posts referring to my personal finances. The gist of the situation is that I've been taking some things--student loans, credit cards--for granted over the last few years as I completed degree after degree, but now I've entered the workforce as a non-student and I'm finding that I'm lagging behind my peers in financial confidence. As such, I'm utilizing the power of the Internet to play catch-up. I've been finding some great advice all over the Web, and today's find was no exception.

PayPal Interest Rate

Apparently PayPal accounts that have elected to participate in the money market thing they offer are earning upwards of 3% right now. 3%! Not six months ago (to my best recollection) it was less than one percent. . . shocking.

I kind of wish I had money to put in it right now.

Got my mind on my money?

Had a fun band practice last night. I think the highlight of the evening was the hardcore version of 'Funky Hat.' That was good things. Got to yell and scream a little, hadn't really done that since high school, been too busy trying to be melodic.

Today I get a package in the mail (well, from FedEx anyway). Some new hardware I bought from Newegg. I'll blog more about it later.

Is A Student Loan Income?

For students like me who are curious about whether you need to include student loans in your taxable income… and I’ve been searching around for this for a couple days now… I finally found out the answer. No, you don’t.

Report your illegal income!

Illegal income, such as stolen or embezzled funds, must be included in your income on line 21 of Form 1040, or on Schedule C or Schedule C–EZ (Form 1040) if from your self-employment activity.

The IRS sure has some odd requirements (search for “illegal income”) for reporting your income. You must also report kickbacks and other under-the-table income.
